Fishing industry is an important economic activity that provides food and jobs for millions of people. The fishing industry includes all the activities involved in the commercial and recreational production of fish and shellfish. The catching, processing, marketing, and conservation of fish and shellfish are all parts of the industry. The industry also provides various other products from the sea, such as seaweeds.
Fish are an excellent source of protein, one of the chief nutrients (nourishing substances) that people need for a good diet. As the world's population has grown, so has the demand for food
Seafood is the flesh of fish, mollusks, and shellfish that is eaten as food. Seafood makes up a major part of people's diet in countries where it is abundant, such as the island nations of Iceland, Japan, and the Maldives. In other countries, people eat seafood to add variety to their meals. Certain people also eat it to help reduce their intake of the fatty substance cholesterol
